The Position

The Chinese Programme in the School of Humanities at Nanyang Technological University invites applications for an Open Rank position in Chinese-English Translation and/or Chinese Linguistics, with preference for candidates whose teaching and research also extend to issues of translation or cross-cultural interpretation. They should have demonstrated expertise in translation studies, cross-cultural communication, bilingual/multilingual interpretation or human–AI collaboration in multilingual contexts interpretation. An interdisciplinary approach to communication and language studies is preferred, with. critical engagement with the impact of artificial intelligence and digital technologies on translation practices would be an advantage.

Research Profile

Applicants should demonstrate a strong and original research agenda that advances the study of Chinese-English translation. They should have demonstrated expertise in translation studies, cross-cultural communication, bilingual/multilingual interpretation or human–AI collaboration in multilingual contexts interpretation. An interdisciplinary approach to communication and language studies is preferred, with. critical engagement with the impact of artificial intelligence and digital technologies on translation practices would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervision, aligned with the Programme’s curriculum and research directions. While the administrative language of the University is English, candidates are also expected to be able to teach in Chinese.

Requirements include:

  • A PhD in or in a related field.

  • Evidence of strong scholarly promise, a developing publication profile and a path to make impact with their research

  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and student mentorship

  • An interest in collaborative, interdisciplinary, and internationally-engaged research

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to build relationships and networks with colleagues and external stakeholders across the university and externally

  • Ability to make a significant contribution to administrative work.

  • Demonstrated commitment to contribute to school, college and university-level initiatives in accordance with strategy at all levels of the organisation.

  • For associate and full Professor roles, a research profile, teaching and supervision track record and leadership/service experience appropriate to the role 

Remuneration

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
