Overview
The Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering personalised, specialised, and cost‑effective nursing care to patients in accordance with established hospital policies, procedures, and standards of nursing care and practice.
Primary Job Responsibilities (80%)
- Assess patients’ needs upon admission and continuously throughout their hospital stay
- Plan, implement, evaluate, and monitor patient care based on assessed needs
- Document nursing care accurately and monitor patient outcomes using established charts and forms
- Administer treatments and carry out investigations as prescribed by physicians
- Communicate and discuss patients’ progress and response to treatment with physicians, nursing, and allied health colleagues
- Ensure continuity of patient care and treatment plans through appropriate follow‑ups
- Deliver safe, competent, and evidence‑based nursing care
- Participate actively in physicians’ ward rounds
- Prepare and assist physicians with procedures performed on patients
- Collaborate and cooperate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure smooth delivery of patient care and services
- Demonstrate sound clinical skills, nursing knowledge, and critical thinking in patient care delivery
- Provide education to patients and families on disease prevention, health promotion, and rehabilitation
- Demonstrate proper use, care, and maintenance of medical equipment
- Ensure economical and appropriate use of consumables and supplies
- Maintain a clean, safe, and conducive working environment
- Assume the role of Staff Nurse‑in‑Charge when assigned
Secondary Responsibilities (20%)
- Supervise and guide newly recruited or junior nursing staff and nursing students during clinical postings
- Participate in clinical, service quality, and improvement activities
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Unit Nurse Leader
Requirements
- Registered Nurse accredited by the Singapore Nursing Board
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution approved by the Singapore Nursing Board
- Compassionate, positive, and patient‑centred approach to care
