Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Fellow in the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme (HLTRP) , Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The HLTRP combines the talents of scientists and clinicians from a broad range of disciplines to investigate the multi-faceted aspects of ageing. The Programme harness synergies between basic and clinical science to develop a comprehensive understanding on the biology of ageing. This enables us to translate our discoveries into real-world solutions that can improve the health span and lifespan of the silver generation., more information on the Programme can be obtained from https://medicine.nus.edu.sg/trp/healthy-longevity/about-us/overview/ . Appointments will be made on a 1 year contract basis, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

The Research Fellow will be responsible for conducting advanced research using rodent models to investigate the electrophysiological characterization of memory mechanisms in both young and adult animals. The role requires expertise in cutting-edge techniques, including patch-clamp electrophysiology, chemogenetics, optogenetics, and behavioral assays, to explore neural circuit function and its relevance to learning and memory.

Main duties and responsibilities

  1. Conduct research using rodent models to investigate memory mechanisms in young and adult animals.
  2. Perform electrophysiological experiments, including in vitro and in vivo recordings with patch-clamp techniques.
  3. Apply advanced molecular and circuit-level tools such as chemogenetics and optogenetics to study neural function.
  4. Design and carry out behavioral assays to assess learning and memory.
  5. Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility.
  6. Maintain animal colonies, ensuring compliance with institutional and ethical guidelines.
  7. Contribute to preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations.
  8. Collaborate with team members, students, and investigators to support ongoing research projects.
