About Our Group:

The Sputter Equipment Development Engineering (SpEDE) team at Seagate designs and develops next‑generation sputter process equipment that supports global HDD media manufacturing. We operate at the intersection of mechanical design, vacuum technology, thermal engineering, automation, and process integration, transforming early‑stage concepts into fully validated systems deployed across Seagate factories worldwide.

As part of a global engineering organization, SpEDE partners closely with R&D, manufacturing, and process engineering teams to deliver equipment solutions that drive performance, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency at scale.

In this role, you will be embedded in a highly collaborative engineering environment that values strong fundamentals, hands‑on problem solving, and continuous learning. You will gain exposure across the full engineering lifecycle—from prototype builds and testing to troubleshooting and design validation—playing a key role in transitioning concepts into manufacturing‑ready equipment.

About the Role – You will:

  • Lead prototype builds, subsystem integration, and engineering test setups to ensure assemblies meet design intent and qualification requirements.
  • Provide hands‑on technical feedback to improve manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and user experience.
  • Plan and execute engineering tests, collect structured performance data, and collaborate with engineers to interpret results and drive improvements.
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting during transition from development to manufacturing environments.
  • Maintain operational readiness of R&D tools, labs, and equipment, ensuring a safe, efficient, and high‑quality development environment.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering during New Product Introduction (NPI) to enable smooth scaling from prototype to production.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including build guides, work instructions, test reports, presentations, and manufacturing support materials.

About You

  • Strong passion for engineering with a hands‑on approach to building, troubleshooting, and learning.
  • Growth mindset with openness to new technologies and evolving engineering challenges.
  • Ability to perform effectively in fast‑paced environments while managing multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative working style with engineers, technicians, and cross‑functional stakeholders.

Your Experience Includes:

  • Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline.
  • 3–5 years of relevant hands‑on experience in equipment assembly, troubleshooting, or engineering support.
  • Practical experience assembling and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, preferably in high‑tech or semiconductor equipment environments (e.g., RF plasma, PVD, CVD, etch tools)
  • Are prepared to work in a Cleanroom Environment
