The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University is an interdisciplinary school that aims to be a world leader in environmental research focused on Asian environmental challenges. The ASE integrates earth and environmental life science, ecology, engineering and technology, human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences to address key issues of the environment and sustainability. For more details, please view https://www.ntu.edu.sg/ase.

The Wetland Carbon Lab at NTU’s Asian School of the Environment (ASE) focuses on understanding the role of aquatic ecosystems, including mangroves peatlands, and streams, as nature based solutions. The lab integrates field-based experiments, high-frequency sensor networks, stable isotope approaches, and modelling to study water, carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus fluxes and greenhouse gas emissions across watersheds.

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to lead watershed-scale monitoring and research across Singapore’s urban-to-nature stream networks. The position supports NTU’s mission to advance solution-oriented environmental research and contributes to sustainable urban planning, water quality management, climate mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing, installing, and operating long-term and mobile aquatic monitoring stations

  • Conducting field campaigns, processing high-frequency datasets

  • Applying mass balance and isotope-based approaches and preparing scientific outputs.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s in Environmental Science, Biogeochemistry, Hydrology, Ecology, or related field

  • Strong experience in aquatic biogeochemistry and watershed-scale monitoring

  • Fieldwork proficiency including sensor deployment

  • Analytical and modelling skills with R or Python

  • Excellent scientific communication

  • Proactive, independent, and team-oriented

  • Tropical or urban aquatic research experience preferred.

ASE seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit based on merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
