Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (AWS) - Contract

ROLE OVERVIEW

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable AWS-based cloud environments using Terraform and modern DevOps practices. This role is pivotal to the organization’s cloud strategy and requires deep technical expertise, a security-first mindset, and strong leadership capabilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and implement secure and scalable cloud infrastructure on AWS using Terraform, following infrastructure-as-code (IaC) best practices.

• Automate cloud deployments and build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure code across multiple environments (dev, staging, production).

• Manage and optimize AWS resources, including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, CloudFront, EKS, and more.

• Monitor cloud environments proactively, respond to incidents, and ensure high uptime, reliability, and performance through observability tooling.

• Collaborate with security teams to conduct audits and apply best practices for cloud security, compliance, and governance (e.g., CIS Benchmarks, SOC 2, PCI-DSS).

• Lead the evaluation, adoption, and integration of new cloud technologies and practices across the organization.

• Provide technical guidance and support to development teams regarding cloud integration, architecture decisions, and deployment strategies.

• Document cloud architectures, runbooks, procedures, and processes comprehensively and keep them up to date.

• Work within a DevOps culture, actively participating in improving existing workflows and developing new ones through collaboration and continuous feedback.

Participate in on-call rotations and incident management, leading post-incident reviews and blameless retrospectives.

TOP 3 MUST-HAVE SKILLS

1. IT Infrastructure Operations

Proven hands-on experience operating and maintaining complex IT infrastructure environments at scale. Strong understanding of networking, compute, storage, and systems reliability engineering principles.

2. Infrastructure Design

Ability to architect highly available, fault-tolerant, and cost-optimized cloud solutions on AWS. Proficiency in translating business and security requirements into robust IaC designs using Terraform.

3. Data Center Orchestration & Provisioning

Deep expertise in orchestrating and automating provisioning of cloud and on-prem data center resources. Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS), configuration management, and automated scaling strategies.
